EPEX SPOT joins SIDC Intraday Auctions (IDA) in the Baltic states
Go-liveAs of 8 September 2026, EPEX SPOT began participating in the SIDC Intraday Auctions (IDA) mechanism in the Baltic states, following its earlier launch of continuous SIDC intraday trading there in November 2025.
The expansion adds a second SIDC-integrated trading venue (EPEX SPOT) to the Baltic intraday auction market, increasing competition among power exchanges, broadening access points for cross-border intraday trading, and further embedding the Baltic states into the pan-European Single Intraday Coupling framework.
This is an incremental but structurally meaningful step in intraday market integration: EPEX SPOT's admission to IDA in the Baltics complements its existing continuous SIDC participation, giving market participants an additional NEMO through which to access the harmonized EU-wide intraday auction mechanism (IDA1/IDA2/IDA3). For price formation, having more competing NEMOs operating the same coupled auction can marginally improve price discovery and liquidity concentration at auction gate closures, though the auction algorithm and cross-zonal capacity allocation remain governed centrally by the All NEMO Committee/SIDC operational framework, limiting differentiation. The practical effect is mostly on market access and competition among exchanges rather than a change to the underlying auction design itself. Cross-border capacity utilization in the Baltic intraday timeframe should become marginally more efficient as more participants can trade via a NEMO of their choice. No change to operational security processes is implied; this is an entry of a new NEMO into an existing mechanism, not a redesign of auction rules.
